La XXIV Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism, in Paestum at the Cafasso tobacco factory, the archaeological area and the National Museum, the Basilica from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 October 2022, presents itself with all positive numbers: 100 conferences in 5 rooms simultaneously, 500 moderators and speakers all in attendance, 150 exhibitors (18 regional territories represented, 12 Regions, Rome Capital with Municipality Napoli at the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria and also Creative Europe, Ales, Parco di Gaiola), 20 foreign countries, 30 European buyers selected by ENIT and national ones.
The Ministry of Culture will present the candidacy of the Via Appia Antica in its space, in the complete route from Rome in Brindisi and including the Trajan variant, for inscription in the World Heritage List ofUNESCO (4 Regions involved in the route and 100 competent territorial bodies (73 Municipalities, 15 Parks, 12 Metropolitan Cities and Provinces).
The BMTA, also in this edition, will implement good practices to develop experiential tourism and sustainable tourism, so that Institutions, Local Authorities and Employer Organizations can adopt them and implement them in the short to medium term:
- the Conference on PNRR support for destinations tourist-archaeological, in collaboration with the Italian Office of the European Parliament, is an opportunity to present improvement proposals in light of the ongoing process with the participation of the leaders of the European Parliament, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the Productive Activities Commissions of the Chamber and of the Cultural Heritage of the Senate, of the Employers' Organizations, of the main Archaeological Parks;
- ArcheoIncoming wants to increase European and national local tourist demand from specialist tour operators (10 of them present in the Exhibition Hall thanks to FIAVET, FTO and AIDIT with the precursors of experiential travel in Italy Piergianni Addis Kel12 Tour Operator, Enrico Ducrot Elephant Journeys, Willy Fassio Il Tucano Travel, Maurizio Levi I Viaggi di Maurizio Levi), always dedicated to outgoing, but from the pandemic onwards also projected onto our beautiful country. Their participation will see a discussion with the Directors of the Autonomous State Parks and Museums on Thursday 27 October and, as buyers, will characterize the Workshop on Saturday 29 October also on a national basis;
- the attention on Underground Archeology with the first National Meeting of Underground Cities intends to highlight the many places under our cities made by man, such as caves, crypts, catacombs, galleries, labyrinths to identify contents and tools to promote an offer marked by beauty, uniqueness, emotional journeys, sustainability, where cities and territories are protagonists. The involvement of the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology, the Municipalities and the Regions, ENIT, the employers' organizations of organized tourism and intermediation, and the Italian Touring Club has the aim of developing an interregional project of the protagonist territories.
THEInternational Archaeological Discovery Award "Khaled al-Asaad", now in its 8th edition and named after the archaeologist of Palmyra who paid with his life for the defense of the cultural heritage, will reward the "discovery of the year 2021": this is the only global recognition dedicated to the world of archeology and in particular to its protagonists, the archaeologists, who with sacrifice, dedication, competence and scientific research face their task every day in the dual role of scholars of the past and professionals at the service of the territory. The following will participate in the handover ceremony: Fayrouz Asaad, Khaled's archaeologist daughter, Nedal Machfej Deputy Minister of Tourism of Syria, Mohamed Nazir Awad Director General of Antiquities and Museums of Syria, Mohamad Saleh Last Director of Tourism of Palmyra.
Also among the prestigious international guests of the XXIV edition Ahmed Farouk Ghoneim Director National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Dimitrios Pandermalis President Acropolis Museum of Athens, Fatma Naït Yghil Director of the Bardo Museum of Tunis e Zahi Hawass archaeologist, former Egyptian Minister of Antiquities and Director of the excavations at Giza, Saqqara and Valley of the Kings.
Il “Sebastiano Tusa” International Underwater Archeology Award, in its 2nd edition, will be awarded to the most innovative project curated by Institutions, Museums and Archaeological Parks, to the best journalistic contribution in terms of dissemination and as a career recognition .
For the Meetings with the Protagonists, Syusy Blady speaks on "Engineers of the Cosmos": a surprising cosmic journey, from the ancient Sumerian myth of Creation to the comparison with the new astrophysical theses of the formation of the Earth.
ArcheoVirtual, International Exhibition and Workshop, which for 15 editions has presented digital applications and virtual archeology projects, will address the theme "Towards the Metaverse" to introduce the public to the prospects emerging in the field of new virtual worlds with the relevant transformations in the methods of communication, entertainment and commerce, which will affect all areas of social life.
Yet, ArcheoExperience with the Experimental Archeology Laboratories for the dissemination of the techniques used by man to create everyday artefacts, ArcheoStartup with youth cultural tourism businesses and the presentation of the project co-financed by the European Union's COSME programme “EU DigiTOUR”, dedicated to SMEs and startups in the tourism sector to access a technical and financial support program, while the community of IgersItaly will meet in Paestum for two Instameets.
The Mayor of Capaccio Paestum Franco Alfieri is extending the redevelopment work of the large Cafasso tobacco factory to the other adjacent buildings, to allow events of international importance such as the BMTA to have large spaces and more services.
The region Campania, represented by the Tourism Councilor Happy Casucci and by the Director General for Cultural Policies and Tourism Rosanna Romano, will be the protagonist with an exhibition space of 200 m29 and at the Workshop on Saturday XNUMX October with the European buyers selected by ENIT and the national buyers to promote the archaeological heritage of the great attractors and above all of the internal areas, according to the President's guidelines Vincenzo De Luca, which has included the BMTA in the official travel calendar since 2018 Exhibitions (With London, Berlin, Madrid, Moscow, Milan, Rimini).
The Archaeological Park of Paestum and Velia, for which the BMTA was conceived in 1998 to support the process of valorising the site included since that year in the world heritage of humanity, will reopen the doors of the Museum recently renovated in the rooms and paths exhibitions and will be present with the new Director Tiziana D'Angelo and the Board Member Alfonso Andria, President of the Province at the birth of the BMTA, which he has always followed since then, having at his side Mounir Bouchenaki, now Honorary President of the Stock Exchange, who at the time of the site's candidacy for theUNESCO he was Director of the Heritage Office and later Deputy Director General for Culture.
