President John F. Kennedy initiated a technological breakthrough that began with scientific progress unprecedented in the history of United States. President Kennedy's vision challenged the nation to send man to the Moon before the end of the 60s. The “Moon Speech” that JFK gave in 1962 at Rice University in Houston (Texas) and the previous year's speech to Congress in Washington went down in history. “I believe that this Nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before the decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to earth”. This inspired one of the largest unprecedented mobilizations of resources and manpower, and only after eight years, on July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the first steps on lunar soil: an incredible achievement for the entire human race .
